Showing PRIDE in your wedding is a great way to celebrate your love and commitment. Either you want to be subtle or want to show it all, here are some ideas to help you express it.*
Decor
Incorporate rainbow colors or any LGBTQ+ symbols into your decorations. You can show pride in your centerpieces, tablecloths, balloons, flowers, confetti, cake toppers, etc.
Food and drinks
Another way you can show PRIDE, is by designing some signature cocktails or get a cake with rainbow colors or have a table with colorful candy.
Printed materials
In order to show PRIDE and have an inclusive wedding, include pronouns in all your printed materials as well as other symbolisms in: your invitations, signage, menu, seating chart, placement cards, etc.
Wedding attire
Let your wedding party and guests wear whatever they want according to their style and gender identity. Let them choose their outfits. Same for you and your partner: do you want to wear a dress? A suit? Something different? Clothes are one of the best ways to express yourself so just choose whatever makes you happy and let everybody else do the same.
Small Attire Accents
You can also use some small accents in your attire to show your PRIDE. For example, you can use some rainbow colors in shoes, socks or cufflinks.
Wedding favors
You can give small PRIDE flags, pins or any other rainbow themed keepsakes or symbols of inclusivity.
Entertainment
You can set a photo booth with props that represent the LGBTQ+ community. Let your guests have fun and express their individuality. Choose a playlist with many different genres so everyone feels included. Give out wigs and props in the dance floor.
Photos
Find a colorful background for some of your photos or add inclusive or LGBTQ+ elements to them.
Donations
Another great way of showing PRIDE in your wedding is to consider asking your guests to donate to a LGBTQ+ charity or organization that supports equality and inclusion instead of giving you presents. It is a great option specially when you want to support a particular cause.
Create an event where everyone feels welcomed and included. You can show PRIDE in many different ways. From very discreet and subtle ways, to very colorful and vibrant. It’s all up to your style. It is also very important that to have an inclusive wedding, it's not only about having a colorful wedding:
"As a wedding planner and designer with 90% of my clients being part of the LGBTQIA+ community, my goal is to always support, learn, and grow as a wedding professional. I look to educational platforms and speakers like Kirsten and Maria Palladino of Equally Wed Pro and LGBTQIA+ Advocate, Don Mamone, for educational tools and resources as well as support publications that highlight and showcase inclusive love like Love Inc. Magazine, Dancing with Them, and Equally Wed. While I love color, clearly, it's not about plastering rainbows everywhere in June and posting one or two photos of Queer couples on your feed, but rather working all year long to show your allyship by supporting and using your platform for good. Striving to create a more inclusive and welcoming wedding industry that showcases all people, weddings, and love is what it is all about. Representation matters, so please make sure you are showcasing the wide spectrum of love and people in your verbiage, portfolios, socials, and website. It's truly critical, especially now as LGBTQIA+ rights are being fought on the daily to show your allyship and support of Queer folks with your whole heart". Holly Gray, CEO of Anything but Gray Events.
When you choose your wedding vendors, make sure you hire the correct people that can bring your vision to life. What are they showcasing in their Social Media and Website? Are they inclusive? Are they showcasing all people? From the wedding planner, to the florist, the photographer, everyone involved has to be "on the same page" so you can have your dream wedding. Ask around, look at galleries and before hiring them, make sure they can create what you're looking for. Whoever you choose, always enjoy the process!
