Tips for your engagement session
Engagement sessions are a great way to get to know your wedding photographer and confirm you made the right choice. Planning an engagement session can be a bit overwhelming, so here are some tips that will help you plan it.
Planning the session:
- Hire a professional photographer so you can have high quality photos of your engagement. Trusting a friend “with a camera” will not give you the same results. To be able to deliver good photos you need knowledge, equipment and experience. The investment is totally worth it.
- Location: Choose a place that is meaningful for you as a couple. If you love nature, go on a hike or to the beach or to a park. If you are more of a “city” person, choose an urban landscape. If you want something fun, you can maybe choose a theme park. Or maybe you want something more intimate like a session at your house. Choose a place where you feel comfortable and you can be yourself.
- Outfits: Dress up with something that you are comfortable with and that you feel yourself. Use complimentary outfits and the same style of clothing. Choose a color palette so the photos look cohesive. No need to be the same clothes, but it looks better if it’s coordinated. Try your outfits before the session and don’t forget to steam/iron them! Avoid large logos and graphics, neon colors, and avoid an outfit you would never actually wear.
- Skin: Avoid getting sun burned and if you normally get spray tan, do it at least a week before the engagement session. Don’t do any peelings, facial treatments or try any new creams, specially in your face, before the session.
- Hair and make-up: Book hair and make-up for your engagement session. A good idea is to book your hair and make-up trial for your wedding on that day.
- Hair: If you are having a hair cut or you will color it, do it 1 or 2 weeks before the session.
- Make it a date! Now that you’ve had your hair and make-up done and that you’re dressed up, make a reservation in one of your favorite restaurants and go on a date after you’re done with the photos.
The day of the session:
- Eat before the session and bring water. We want you to enjoy your session, being hungry or thirsty won’t help!
- Bring make up for touch ups and hair kit. We want you to look beautiful at all times.
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Be yourself, don’t overthink. We know for some people it can be stressful to be in front of the camera, but just think about having a good time and enjoying the moment. That will reflect in your photos.
Whatever you decir, be yourself, have fun and enjoy the session!
